While reading Jenny Holzer’s truisms, I noticed that the statements become forceful (i.e., you must ….). The one that struck me was “you must disagree with authority figures”. I think this one caught my eye because most of the statements that I saw weren’t so rebellious, though I consider it human nature to feel rebellious at some moments in life. However, I wonder if all people feel rebellious at some point in their lives.

In response to Holzer’s truisms, I came up with an idea to make my own picture with a truism. The truism that I chose to use was “You are what you eat,” and with this truism, I decided to place this text over a face. I chose a picture of the face of someone I did not know, or at least did not recognize. Though I did make a copy of the text over a celebrity’s face, I did not really like that picture because I thought the text over this person’s face was too forced. I chose to crop the photo in such a way that the picture was only of the person’s eyes and nose but his nose was no longer shown, and I placed the text over his eyes. I chose to crop out his mouth because I thought placing the text over his mouth would be a little cliché and a little expected. The mouth is where you eat – placing the text over the mouth would have been a little on the nose. I think placing the text over his eyes is more powerful because you see the food with your eyes, you see the food and then you make a decision about whether to eat it or not. I also chose not to capitalize "you" in order to follow Holzer's format.
